Day 89: greatest hits pt. 3 - coffee pot (START/STOP))

Today I paid $8 for a cup of coffee. I rarely do that, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Turns out, it was . . . so worth it! (Pour over . . . single origin Indonesia-based medium roast bean)

Early on we talked about a coffee pot. I told you that if you get lost along the way to go back to the coffee pot illustration. Do you remember that?

If you brew coffee in a coffee maker, the water you put in is clear but comes out a dark brown.

If you dump that coffee out but don’t touch the grounds, the next water you put in will be clear, and when it comes it, it’ll be a little lighter.

If you repeat this process over and over again, eventually the water coming out will be just about as clear as the water you put in.

All the spiritual disciplines we’ve talked about – prayer, devotionals, Bible study, serving, financial stewardship, intentional relationships, etc. – are the water.

Pornography & sexual images are the coffee grounds.

There are two rules you must follow:

  1. Keep adding water
  2. Don’t add any more grounds

How are you doing with those two rules?

Unfortunately, the grounds have a way of staying in there for a long time. But eventually, if you keep pouring water regularly, they lose their effectiveness . . . as though they’re not even there.

Keep it up . . . keep going . . . you’ll get there.

Thoughts to Pray/Journal:

  1. How’s the water?
  2. How about the grounds?
  3. How’d the conversation with your Timothy about the coffee maker go?
