Day 1: Abundant Life pt. 1

The car lurched toward my buddy’s house (certified mechanic named Scott – really nice guy, bald . . . by choice . . . I think), his place in sight as soon as I topped the hill. The 2010 Chevy Impala was not running on all cylinders, and I felt the loss of power up the hill he warned me about. I didn’t really notice the power loss until I hit that hill; I had gotten use to things not working to their full capacity.

For those shackled by pornography & lust, life can feel like a misfiring 2010 Chevy Impala – black . . . flat black . . . due to age, not design.

You can go through life fine enough, but when you hit a hill, you feel the difference.

And you know that life is all about the hills. You know that at the end of those you’ll find mountain tops

and you long to be someone who can climb hills,

navigate rocky terrain,

conquer the obstacles life throws at you.

Yet, you have this THING in your life that you know is holding you back from being your truest self . . . from firing on all cylinders.

Jesus has a different plan for your life – your abundant life.

John 10:9-10

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief      comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Abundant.

Life abundantly.

More than enough.

Not just sufficient . . . but abundant.

If you are going to become free of pornography & lust, you must believe this for yourself.

God wants you to have an abundant life.

God designed you to have an abundant life.

And not just in the life to come, but here & now.

Although life will NOT be free of trouble, Jesus promises a full, abundant life. For you . . . yes you.

The guy who feels guilty for his lingering stares,

his wandering fantasizing thoughts,

his frequent access to pornographic websites,

his masturbation

. . . YES YOU.

Over the next 90 days we’re going to work together on unshackling you from pornography & lust. A life of freedom IS within your grasp. God has designed just such a life for you. Walking in that freedom will take a lot of hard work, diligence, and determination.

But it is possible and it is God’s plan for your life.

You must first become utterly convinced of this.

Thoughts to Journal:

  • What does an abundant life look like in your mind?

  • Do you believe you are worthy of an abundant life? Why or why not?

  • What do you want YOUR abundant life to look like . . . in 5 years?

Journaling Exercise: ‘In 5 Years’ Time’ - Take 5 uninterrupted minutes per question.

#1 – If you made ALL the right decisions, each day, starting today and for the next 5 years, what would your life look like in 5 Years’ Time? Think about your relationships, your career, your spiritual walk, your finances, etc. (establish what you’re running toward)

#2 – If you made ALL the wrong decisions, each day, starting today and for the next 5 years, what would your life look like in 5 Years’ Time? Think about the same areas. (establish what you’re running from)

#3 – What things do you need to change, starting today, to set yourself on the first path & not the second?
