This is the multifaceted way Jesus reveals himself and some of the nuances of what it should look like as we serve him.”  Below is a non exhaustive list of scriptures divided roughly into those 4 categories. The purpose of this list is to allow us to balance out and expand the picture of Jesus we have, and to see where that picture is root in the biblical text.

• Matthew 9:10–13 & Luke 5:27–32 — Jesus came for sinners and the spiritually sick, not the self-righteous.

• Matthew 11:28–30 — “Come to me… and I will give you rest.”

• Matthew 12:7 — God desires mercy more than religious ritual.

• Luke 4:16–21 — Jesus announces good news for the poor, freedom for captives, sight for the blind, and liberation for the oppressed.

• Luke 7:11–17 — Jesus raises the widow’s son at Nain out of compassion.

• Luke 7:36–50 — Jesus forgives the sinful woman and honors her love and repentance.

• Luke 10:25–37 — The Good Samaritan models mercy toward the wounded and abandoned.

• Luke 13:10–17 — Jesus frees a crippled woman from long suffering.

• Luke 14:12–24 — Invite the poor, crippled, blind, and lame into God’s banquet.

• Luke 17:11–19 — Jesus heals ten lepers, including the outsider Samaritan.

• Luke 18:9–14 — The humble tax collector goes home justified rather than the self-righteous Pharisee.

• Luke 19:1–10 — Jesus seeks and saves Zacchaeus, the socially despised sinner.

• Luke 23:39–43 — Jesus promises paradise to the repentant criminal on the cross.
